Concrete, Clay, Slate and Fibre Cement?

Concrete tiles are an alternative to terracotta tiles, and are similar in many respects to their terracotta counterparts. Made from a mixture of sand, cement and water, concrete tiles can either be painted or have colour mixed through before they are cast into their tile shape for a longer lasting finish.

Roof tiles are designed mainly to keep out rain, and are traditionally made from locally available materials such as terracotta or slate. Modern materials such as concrete and plastic are also used and some clay tiles have a waterproof glaze. ... Often these tiles are shaped at the exposed end to give a decorative effect.

Roof slates. ... Roof tiles are made from materials such as clay or concrete rather than slate. Slate is strong and has very good weather resistance as well as low water absorption, meaning that it withstands freezing temperatures well.

Fibre cement slates are slates that have been manufactured from fibre cement, to produce an alternative to natural slate that has economic and environmental advantages, as well as a number of other benefits.

Torch On vs EPDM

What is Torch-on Roofing Felt. Torch-on roofing, or torch-down roofing as it is also known, is a flat roof covering solution that involves three layers of modified bitumen (felt) melt-welded onto the roof surface and each other with the use of a blowtorch to create an impenetrable, waterproof seal.  Before EPDM was introduced Torch on was the most popular material on the market.

EPDM rubber is an extremely versatile material that can be used in a variety of applications, from automotive products to HVAC parts. It also acts as a less expensive alternative to silicone and can last for long periods of time with proper use, saving you time and money.  This needs to be installed on a warm day as the glue that holds the rubber down may become compromised and fail causing the roof to fail and let water in.  Torch on felt can be installed in pretty much any weather.
